Blood Moon Camping Trip

Facebook Event Page

Space lovers, here's another all-inclusive trip happening in the Okefenokee Swamp! This trip is to experience a TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE in a certified International Dark Sky Park!
Stephen C. Foster State Park's Pioneer site (group campsite) will be our base camp for a night under the stars... and a BLOOD MOON! We'll day paddle on Thursday (or you can take a boat tour if paddling ain't your thing), have a hearty supper at camp, relax around the campfire and enjoy a fireside educational program, enjoy the peak of the eclipse at 3 AM (or just sleep if you’d rather do that!), enjoy a hot breakfast at camp, and have boat tours to see Minnie’s Lake on day 2 (around a 3 hour boat trip).
The fee for this trip is $300.00 per person (plus tax). The fee covers your canoe or kayak, paddles, PFDs, paddling instruction, swamp guidance, local naturalist experience and expertise, meals, snacks, drinks, educational fireside program, campsite fee, guides for the extra boats on day 2, and camping gear (tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, headlamps, etc). If you are interested in coming just to camp, but not paddle or take the boat tours, email for special discounted pricing.
Paddling experience is not required, but is helpful. Moderate physical fitness is required. Participants must be able to swim.
This trip is a land-based car camping trip, which means we are camping within Stephen C. Foster State Park at their Pioneer Site (group campsite), and will have our vehicles near us. This is not a paddle camping trip where we go to the islands/platforms. This trip is great for beginners or those who want to camp in the Okefenokee Swamp, but not canoe or kayak camp.
Day trips into the Swamp and base camping on land makes it easy for people of all ages and skill levels to join this trip!
This trip is on the West side of Okefenokee, the side known for its beautiful cypress trees, its remote nature, and the ability to see the night sky with little to no light pollution. Stephen C. Foster State Park is one of the most remote state parks in Georgia, and is located inside Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, a USFWS property.

About the Trip Location

“Jenny, thanks so much for the opportunity to share your overnight kayak/camping experience this week!! It was amazing the way you brought 7 of us (ages13-74) together for a fun filled adventure in freezing temperatures to watch a meteor shower in the early morning hours… (I never knew I could get that many layers of clothing and socks on!). The storytelling around the fire pit and learning more about the history of our beautiful Okefenokee Swamp as we explored the West side has me already looking forward to the next tour. AND of course there are not enough words to describe the experience and gratitude for the new friends met on this trip!! I don’t know the last time I laughed so hard and felt so cared for by people who were total strangers until 3 days ago. South Georgia holds a treasure in its backyard and I look forward to joining you on more adventures in the future!!”— Jean Spence
